How We Calculate Your Score
Weather Data
Every morning at 6am, we pull forecasts from the National Weather Service. Wind speed, direction, precipitation, temperature swings—all the factors that move ducks.
Cold fronts with 10°F+ drops and north winds get massive bonus points.
Field Reports
ODWC biologists file weekly reports for each WMA. We parse these for bird numbers, water conditions, and species sightings.
Fresh reports (<4 days) carry 40% weight. Stale reports fade to 10%.
Migration & Sightings
Ducks Unlimited migration status tells us where birds are in the flyway. eBird observations fill gaps for OLAP properties.
Peak migration (Nov-Dec) applies a 1.2x multiplier to all scores.
Score Calculation
Our algorithm weighs each factor based on data freshness and reliability, producing a 0-100 score with confidence rating.
80+ is a hot spot. 65-79 is solid. Below 45? Maybe sleep in.
